Message from the Founder—February
2003
The Foundation is off to an incredible start. Our
September 2002 inaugural fundraiser, "At
the Net," was held at the home of the
U.S. Open at the National Tennis Center in Flushing,
New York. This event enabled us to raise over a
quarter of a million dollars, and special donations
were made prior to the event to cover all of the
costs. Consequently, one hundred percent of all
proceeds raised are available for Lyme disease research
and education.
In addition to "At the Net" and
other fundraising events, we are also working diligently
on other methods of raising money. For instance,
we recently received a $10,000 grant from the NY
State Department of Health, thanks to the recommendation
of Long Island Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.
I can't begin to express how grateful I am to everyone
who has helped make this Foundation possible, including
the Executive Board, Advisory Board and Event Committee.
Additionally, many thanks to the generous corporations,
individual donors and countless volunteers, all
of whom have put in tireless hours and endless energy
to make this first event so triumphant. A very special
thanks to the co-founder of the Foundation, as well
as my wonderful husband, Rich Grodin.
We are certainly on our way to raising more money
to increase awareness and further research efforts
to combat this debilitating disease. Thank you again
for all of your support, and we hope you will continue
to help us Turn the Corner on Lyme disease.
With gratitude,
Staci Grodin Back to the Current Founder's
