Message from the Founders,
Staci and Rich Grodin-Recapping a Tremendous
Year...
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.
We are excited about 2005, and we wish you a happy
and healthy New Year.
2004 proved to be another incredible year for
the Turn the Corner Foundation. We continued
to focus on the training and education of domestic
and international Lyme-literate physicians as
well as a host of other programs dedicated to
advance the research and education needed to combat
this devastating disease.
Even hurricane Ivan could not prevent the third
annual At the Net Tennis Event
and Tournament from being another huge success.
The scheduled Saturday start was pushed off until
the rain date of Sunday, and Mother Nature cooperated
by providing us with a beautiful day. Despite
the date change, we were still able to meet our
fundraising goals and provide a wonderful experience
for all involved.
While much of our expected media coverage was
washed out by Ivan, we were still fortunate to
gain enough coverage to spread our important message
to millions of people. I was interviewed by the
Eastern Queen Gazette, CD 101.9 and Jim
Watkins, main anchor of WPIX Ð WB 11.
We are pleased to announce that the Foundation
raised over $240,000, which brings our
cumulative donations close to $1,000,000. Please
remember that special donations have been made
to cover all costs of the event, which enables
us to donate 100% of the dollars raised directly
towards our cause.
We are also very proud to announce the creation
of a committee of Medical Advisors, including
some of the most well known Lyme-literate physicians
in the country. These doctors are a great addition
to our team, and we look forward to working with
them.
I want to personally thank the volunteers, board
members, medical advisors, individuals and companies
who have continuously supported us since our inception,
along with all of the newer people and corporations
whose donations and support have made it possible
for us to make such tremendous progress. I also
want to thank my husband, Rich Grodin,
who is the co-founder of Turn the Corner. Rich's
endless support and tireless efforts to take Turn
the Corner to the next level has proved to be
a great success time and time again.
While we are off to a great start, there is still
much progress to be made, and we hope you will
continue to help us turn the corner on
Lyme disease. Enjoy the newsletter and please
remember that Lyme disease is a serious epidemic,
and you and/or a loved one May Have It and
Not Know It. If you are being tested or treated
for Lyme disease, be sure to inquire if your physician
is Lyme literate.
Sincerely,
Staci and Rich Grodin
