Staci and Rich Grodin Recapping a Tremendous Year...

Happy spring to all and thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter. I am sure you are all as excited as I am about the warmer weather and longer days, but I want to be sure to alert you that this is the time you should be the most aware of Lyme disease. As the weather becomes warmer, the dangers of contracting Lyme disease become increasingly ever present, as new research shows that warmer weather and a higher moisture content lead to an increase in infected tick populations. If you have not read our press release on the dangers as well as the measures for preventing Lyme disease for you and your family please click here.

We have been working diligently to keep tabs on all the current programs we have funded, as well as to strategize on how to continue to increase awareness of this debilitating disease. We are currently in the process of launching a new program called the Lyme Disease Educational Awareness Series, and we have scheduled the Fourth Annual At the Net Tennis Event and Tournament. Please reference the Fund-Raising Events section of this newsletter for more information on these programs.

Thank you so much for your continued support and faith in Turn the Corner. As you read this newsletter you will get an idea of the significant progress we have made since we started this foundation in 2002. We would not have been able to do this without all of your generous support. Enjoy this beautiful time of year, and you can always feel free to e-mail if you have any questions. If you want more detailed information regarding the Foundation, please feel free to visit our website at www.turnthecorner.org.

Spring and Summer Fundraising Events - Lyme Disease Awareness Coming to a City Near You...

We have recently created and launched a complimentary education series called the Lyme Disease Educational Awareness Series.

This educational program will tour multiple communities in the tri-state area and provide attendees with the opportunity to meet world-renowned Lyme-literate physicians and learn all they need to know about Lyme disease.

Please click here to view a list of the cities we will be visiting and to reserve your seat as space is limited.

Discussion topics include:
  • How to protect your children from Lyme disease;
  • How to tell if your child has Lyme disease;
  • What to do if you or someone in your family is infected;
  • The latest information on Lyme disease and its treatments; and
    Much, much more.

Please click here for a listing of the upcoming communities we will be visiting; and if you are interested in sponsoring this program in your community, please click here.

We are also very happy to announce that the Fourth Annual At the Net Tennis Event and Tournament will be held on September 17th at the US Tennis Center, Home of the US OPEN. If you are interested in playing, sponsoring or volunteering for the event, please e-mail us for more information.

Making a Difference - Close to half a million dollars donated...

Since the inception of the Foundation, we have granted approximately $500,000 to several organizations including the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), the Lyme Disease Association (LDA) and Columbia University.

We continue to monitor these programs and are happy to report that they all continue to be very successful in helping us create awareness and provide education to the general public as well as to physicians worldwide. From an aggressive media campaign that has reached millions of people - to the training of physicians worldwide, to creating and disseminating standards of diagnosis and treatment to physicians, to working to help major insurance carriers understand the needs of Lyme patients and these programs have made a significant difference in both diagnoses and treatment of this disease that has ruined so many people's lives.

Volunteer Spotlight - Giving Time for a Wonderful Cause...

Our volunteer base, consisting of the Executive Board, Advisory Board, Medical Advisors and Event Committee, makes us a very unique organization. Many of these volunteers are from prestigious organizations and corporations and work in such lines of business as hedge funds, law firms, investment banks, public-relations firms, entertainment companies and not-for-profits. In each newsletter, we will introduce you to one of these volunteers to give you a better idea of the great people that help make this Foundation so successful. To learn more about how to volunteer your time in these areas, please feel free to contact us.

In this newsletter, we would like to introduce one of our Event Committee members, Nicole Kalish. Nicole is 34 years old and received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University. She has been employed as Vice President of National Publicity for New Line Cinema over the past several years, and prior to that she worked for Universal Pictures and Miramax Films. Her interests include tennis, movies, art and travel.

Nicole has been very close friends with Staci Grodin since their years in college together, and she has seen first hand how the disease has affected Staci's life. When Staci told her she was starting a foundation to help eradicate the disease, Nicole offered Staci help in any way possible to help make it a success. Since volunteering for the Foundation, Nicole has been instrumental in helping acquire items for the auctions and raffles which were used to raise significant donations.

We are so grateful for Nicole's hard work and dedication and look forward to continuing to have her as a key member of the volunteer team.
