Tips to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones

Lyme disease has been diagnosed in all 50 states, so even if you live outside of the Northeast, you are still at risk!

REDUCE EXPOSURE TO TICKS -Avoid tick-infested areas such as those with tall grass or wooded areas, and sitting directly on the ground. Stay in the center of paths to avoid tick-laden brush.

DRESS PROPERLY - Wear light-colored clothes when you venture into grass, woods, garden or beach areas so you increase the likelihood of noticing ticks. Tuck shirt into pants and pants into socks to thwart a tick's effort to crawl under your clothing and get to your skin.

USE AN EPA-APPROVED TICK REPELLENT - Once inside, wash it off. Make sure your repellent has DEET and Permethrin for ultimate protection. DEET should not have a concentration of more than 25% and you should spray on extremities (Feet, Hands, Legs and Arms). Permethrin should be used on clothing.

DO FREQUENT TICK CHECKS - Perform daily, including a naked, full-body exam upon returning inside. Remove ticks properly!
